Quebec Collective of Forgotten Protected Persons

Are you a Protected Person (someone whose refugee claim has been accepted), currently in Quebec, and concerned about the long delays for permanent residence and family reunification with your family members overseas? Do you support protected persons and want to take action in solidarity with them?

Join the Quebec Collective of Forgotten Protected Persons today! We are a group of people directly affected by this situation, as well as allies working to improve it.

We are deeply concerned about the serious human, social, and economic consequences of these delays. In Quebec, the wait for permanent residence now exceeds 9 years and may be 10 years or more for family reunification—a wait seven times longer than in other Canadian provinces, where the wait is 15 months. These delays have profound consequences on the daily lives of those affected, who face administrative barriers and live in constant anxiety, with direct impacts on their physical and mental health—and consequently on their integration process in Quebec. Many family members overseas are living in situations of extreme insecurity. Women and youth are particularly affected by these impacts.

Born out of a collaboration between Welcome Haven and the Refugee Family Reunification Project, the Collective offers workshops and advocacy meetings for Protected Persons in Quebec seeking to reunite with their families.

Participate in the meetings and get involved with the Collective in order to: 

• Meet other people in the same situation
• Better understand the reasons behind the unbearably long processing times and possible solutions
• Explore what we can concretely do to improve the situation
